On Sunday May 24th, The Boulder Creek Recreation District will be hosting a fun day at Junction Park. Great bands will be throwing down tunes, Boulder Creek Brewery will be catering the food, there is art to browse and buy and of course cold beer and wine. Come sit on the grass or dip your toes in the river and enjoy this beautiful life in the mountains! Proceeds benefit Boulder Creek Recreation Programs!

This years theme is a Black and White All-Age Dance Party and the Odd Fellows Hall has never looked so great! KBCZ volunteers spent Friday night happily decorating and stocking the bar. Earlier this month, Blair McEwen of Felton, rushed his beautiful wife Donnice to the emergency room because she was experiencing horrific abdominal pain. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. While at the hospital, she had both ovaries, tubes and lymph nodes removed. She is now facing a grueling bout of chemo, followed by a stay at Stanford for a complete hysterectomy and lymph node removal in her neck, and then more rounds of chemo. Says Blair, “it felt like our world started to crash in on us. I took time off work to be her 24 hour care provider and the bills started to pile up.”
A close family friend set up a GoFundMe page so that people could help if they wanted to. What Blair and his family saw coming in from the SLV community on that first day was so uplifting. “I watched as everyone started to donate to help my family and couldn’t help but to start crying. There are no words to describe how much everyone’s help, caring and generosity has helped our family. When our world felt the darkest it had every been. Everyone came together to take the weight off of our shoulders and helped us to dust ourselves off and give us an ember of happiness back.”

KBCZ is looking for more local music to be cataloged and played in rotation on its station. If you have good quality recordings, KBCZ is asking for local music that are pressed onto CDs (no mp3s unless they are very high quality like 320kbps). KBCZ is also interested in other types of pre-recorded programming like radio plays, comedies and educational programs. KBCZ is also seeking volunteers who have interests in other areas of radio like operations, fundraising, marketing and outreach. Contribute an hour a week or an hour a day! The station plans to start pre-programming the automated software with local content for broadcast on the internet starting now and then plans to add live DJ’s, talk shows and an RSS live feed.
