Local Family ‘s Gratitude to SLV Makes Cancer Diagnosis A Little Easier to Bear

Earlier this month, Blair McEwen of Felton, rushed his beautiful wife Donnice to the emergency room because she was experiencing horrific abdominal pain. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer.  While at the hospital, she had both ovaries, tubes and lymph nodes removed. She is now facing a grueling bout of chemo, followed by a stay at Stanford for a complete hysterectomy and lymph node removal in her neck, and then more rounds of chemo.  Says Blair, “it felt like our world started to crash in on us.  I took time off work to be her 24 hour care provider and the bills started to pile up.”

A close family friend set up a GoFundMe page so that people could  help if they wanted to.   What Blair and his family saw coming in from the SLV community on that first day was so uplifting.  “I watched as everyone started to donate to help my family and couldn’t help but to start crying.  There are no words to describe how much everyone’s help, caring and generosity has helped our family. When our world felt the darkest it had every been.  Everyone came together to take the weight off of our shoulders and helped us to dust ourselves off and give us an ember of happiness back.”

The page is still up and active, for people who would like to help out a local family.
