DIO Fest begins this coming weekend. There is great line-up of bands performing including Boulder Creek’s own Naked Bootleggers and Sugar By the Pound. For those of us that live nearby, going to the event may seem like a great idea, but when it comes to the included camping, you may prefer being home in your nearby cozy bed. If that’s the case, DIO Fest is offering day passes.

Good Times: This year’s DIO Fest brings out Santa Cruz’s best for Camp Krem

Jacob Pierce at the Good Times has done a nice article on DIO Fest. DIO Fest is beginning tomorrow. From the article:

It comes full circle when this weekend’s DIO Fest brings out some of the Santa Cruz music scene’s most popular artists to help raise funds for Camp Krem’s new program, which will include a music teacher for the summer.

The three-day camping festival kicks off Friday, April 25 with 21 bands, including Dan P. & the Bricks, Marty O’Reilly, North Pacific String Band and a reunion of Birdhouse.

From the website:

DIO Fest exists so that corporate mega-festivals don’t eventually rule the world. It exists to help us remember that the person on the stage is not so different from the person in the audience, or the local farmer that’s supplying the grinds. It serves to remind us that we can do great things when we come together.

From the organizers:

DIO Fest is a family-friendly event! This year’s fest will be featuring the environmentally conscious puppet-show of Erin Inglish and her 2014 Earth * Bike * Banjo Tour! Also at DIO Fest are a kids playground, swimming pool and loads of outdoor space to have fun. There will also be an arts & crafts deck for kids. So don’t hesitate to bring the whole family to DIO Fest, just know that unless you have an on-site parking pass you’ll be riding the shuttle up to the fest with the kids!

DIO Fest is committed to having a low carbon foot-print! There will be recycling and solid waste bins everywhere, as well as ashtrays in the designated smoking areas. All festival attendees are encouraged to bring their own mugs & eating utensils to minimize waste from drinks & food. Camp Krem is our home, and therefore we treat like one. Last year we left DIO Fest sparkling clean & beautiful, let’s do it again!

DIO Fest – last weekend at Camp Krem

We dropped by DIO Fest (Do it Ourselves Fest) last weekend at Camp Krem and it was a wonderful event – great people, gracious hosts and unique music in a stunning, peaceful mountaintop environment. DIO fest was sold out – quite an accomplishment for an inaugural event (we’re hinting that we hope there will be more).

Upon arriving we were greeted by the organizers Jonathan LaBeaud and Andrea Combs – both really nice folks. Andrea gave us a tour of the plot and brought us up to the main stage to see the North Pacific String Band. Right before the band started we had a chat with Steve Stubblefield who  also is a member of the North Pacific String Band and an organizer of this event.
