The Mountain Bulletin: Verizon Moves Forward with Cell Tower

For a synopsis of the current state of Verizon’s proposed cell tower right in downtown Boulder Creek, click HERE to read Steve Poikonen’s article at the Mountain Bulletin.

From the article:

“My information was based on a statement Chris Currier had made, who stated he no longer supported the tower and expected the application to be withdrawn. Verizon has taken the position that “Mr. Currier is in a contractual arrangement, and Verizon, not Mr. Currier, will decide whether or not to withdraw.” ‘

Downtown Cell Tower still PENDING !

Email below was received on Monday, July 29 from Bruce McPherson’s office.

I’m responding on behalf Supervisor McPherson, who is out of the office. I’m also responding because I was mistaken in saying that Verizon had withdrawn their application. My information was based on Chris Currier, who said he was withdrawing the application. Wishful thinking prevailed and I misstated the situation. Verizon has taken the position that Chris is in a contractual arrangement and cannot withdraw. Today, I talked to Frank Barron, Chris Currier and the agent working on behalf of Verizon. They all confirmed that Verizon is looking for alternative sites. If they can find a decent alternative, they expect to withdraw the application for the Currier site. At this time, however, the application is still active and the hearing is still scheduled for Aug. 23 before Zoning Administrator. ( That hearing very likely will be pushed to a later date because Verizon likely will not have the information requested by the ZA.)

I apologize again for my part in furthering the wrong information.
Sincerely,
Robin

Massage of Boulder Creek Owner in Battle With Breast Cancer, Seeks Donations

Wonderful Massage Therapist;s Friends Seeking Donations

Wonderful Massage Therapist’s Friends Seeking Donations

Our friend, Karen has been an active board member of our local business association, fund raising for events and orchestrating holiday activities for the entire community. She is very service oriented & is much more comfortable making donations & volunteering her time to help others than accepting relief from them, but it’s now her time.

Karen moved to our beautiful, small town, Boulder Creek, California, seventeen years ago. At that time she was working in the telecommunications industry, enjoying the health benefits and paid vacations of corporate America until they downsized in 2001.

She recreated herself as a yoga instructor & massage therapist and is blessed to have a thriving private practice. Recently, she was diagnosed with breast cancer that changed everything for her. She will be going into surgery May 1st to have a lumpectomy. She will wait for the pathology results to see what the next course of treatment will be.

Karen pays over $350 a month for a “catastrophic” insurance policy with an $8,000 deductible that caps out at $12,500. This surgery will easily absorb all of that and more. So while Karen has paid her quarterly self-employment taxes for over 10 years, she does not qualify for state disability (although she paid into it for over 27 years).

After her surgery Karen will be in convalescence and will be unable to work for 4-6 weeks, perhaps longer depending upon treatment.

Her revenue stream will dry up while she’s recuperating and the overhead of life will continue. Although she has put in applications to Bridge the Gaps (for assistance with medical coverage), she still needs help making her mortgage, office rent and paying the bills for the next few months. Please visit this “Giveforward” link, set up by her friends and donate whatever you can.

Update: Wendy Rivas

Well, sad to say that the person found this past weekend was Wendy Rivas. The Sheriffs have stated that she was not a victim of any type of foul play. The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating some pre-existing medical conditions that may have been contributing factors in the death of Rivas.

We’re sorry to hear this and wish Wendy’s family all the best.
